WHAT IS CRISIS MANAGEMENT?

Firstly, have a list of key spokespeople that you can depend on to be the face of your company during a crisis. Ideally, these spokespeople should be media trained, confident and armed with all the key information and messages you would like to communicate.

You should also have a dedicated protocol to inform your employees, and a set of guidelines in place to ensure everybody within your organisation knows what to do in the event of a crisis. It is also beneficial to have a list of your company values and key messages that can be accessed by your staff. 

In the event of a crisis, it pays to be proactive. Draw up a statement that outlines the incident, and what measures are in place to rectify. Be ready to handle press enquires, and make and halt any communication, including social media.
